Four Famous Brides ~ Among Many

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt married her fifth cousin Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1905 (thus becoming Anna Eleanor Roosevelt Roosevelt)!  Her uncle, Teddy, who was then the President of the United States, had offered her a White House wedding but she turned it down.  So when he was in New York City to lead the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, he walked her down the aisle at the home of her cousin, Susie Parish.  No photographs were taken of the ceremony, but she later posed for a photograph in her wedding dress.  Her husband, Franklin Roosevelt,  would later become our 32nd President.

1953 was the year Jacqueline Bouvier and John F. Kennedy tied the knot. What made it special is that after the ceremony, 1200 guests joined the bridal couple at Hammersmith Farm in Newport, Rhode Island for champagne and dancing.  Imagine the food preparation!  (Imagine the clean-up!) Jackie did not have a very long wedding train, but she wore an extremely full, long veil which extended from a little head-hugging cap which she wore at the back of her head which allowed her hair to show all around her face.  Her hubby became our 35th President.

But, wait!  A movie star becomes a real Princess!  Yes, on April 19, 1956, Grace Kelly, one of Hollywood’s most beautiful and brightest stars, and one of Alfred Hitchcock’s favorite actresses, married Prince Ranier, of the small principality of Monaco, giving  her status as a real  princess!   Alfred Hitchcock starred Grace Kelly in the classic movie “Rear Window” with another star, Jimmy Stewart.  The citizens of Monaco gifted Princess Grace with a Rolls Royce and jewels.  Okay!

We all know of the classic princess marriage of Lady Diana Spencer to the Prince of Wales on July 29, 1981!  A highly televised wedding of enormous proportions displayed a beautiful glass carriage which delivered Diana to the church!  By the way, her wedding train was 25 feet in length!  Just think.  With that much wedding fabric, one could make a duvet with drapes to match for the bedroom.. Hmm.  Interesting idea.  Let me know if one of you Brides-to-be does this!

All of these famous brides had something in common – hope for the future.  Those of you, who are planning your wedding and new life, probably share the same hope.  Let your hope for your future be your prayer.  God already knows your future, so make it easier on yourself, He is there for you; put your trust in Him and He will guide you through, not only your wedding plans, but through life’s storms.  Just ask Him.
